Chapter V: Carving a Buffalo
I awoke twice during the night, first when the attack passed off enough for pain to bring me up for a few minutes. My vision had come back, enough for the fire burning nearby to hurt when I looked that way, not understanding where it had come from. Around me was full dark, and I couldn’t see anything in the surrounding land after looking into the fire. But I had glimpsed someone sitting on the fire’s far side, seeming to watch me. That it was a man I was fairly certain, but whether Fisher who might have come up to me in the twilight or someone else, I couldn’t tell.
